Oyster
The presence of oysters has been recorded in  “The   Journal  Of  The  Indian Archipelago And  Eastern Asia" by J.R. Logan (1858). We are lucky to find the remaining population of oysters in this area. By visiting us, you will take a boat ride  to see traditional oyster fishermen picking up oysters at Muar River. You will have the chance to see traditional  oyster fishermen  in action at Muar River during low tide with small sampans. They will dive and then disappear under the water - leaving their sampans and the long wooden poles. The  long poles are used to guide them down and up from the oyster beds. A few minutes later, the fishermen will surface and throw the oysters into the sampans. This tour will end with oyster dish at nearby restaurant.

Why oysters will attract tourists?
1) Oysters  commonly known by local traditional fishermen as Tiram Kapak which are found at the estuary of Muar River are said to be the only oyster of this  species found in  the world.
2) The taste of this new oyster species is said to be more delicious than other oysters found in the world.
3) Oysters are exotic food and are said to have their own special nutrients. It is said to have a high testosterone content  - good for bones, muscles, blood and  men sexuality.
4) The way oysters are collected from the bottom of the river is very unique - fishermen will ride  small boats, tie the boats to  poles and then dive to the bottom of the   river without oxygen assistance while collecting oysters.
5) This oyster species is on the verge of extinction,  based on the said journal written in 1858.

Based on the above factors, this discovery of new oyster species is expected to attract media, scientists, environmental activists and oyster enthusiasts from all over the world to come here to further the scientific studies on oysters. It will also boost tourism sector which will hopefully improve the  economy to the local community.
